Climatus College is a compound word of the two words of “Homo Climatus” and “College”. The word “Climatus” means "Homo Climatus" for humans who adapt to changing climates, and the word “College” means that citizens can realize the learning necessary for life. Climatus College helps to provide a program consisting of campaigns, concerts, performances, magazines, and other mediums through which anyone can easily participate in a variety of activities relating to climate change.
Climatus College is constantly expanding its Social media and the contents it provides. These developments are primarily directed towards members of the future generations who make up approximately 44% of our population. Furthermore, through collaborations with a range of businesses the goal is to evolve Climatus College to facilitate greater connections and participation from the general public.
Adoption of the Paris Agreement marks the beginning of a critical period where developed and developing nations must collaborate to address and mitigate climate change. South Korea must actively work with developing nations to strengthen our efforts against climate change. The Climate Change Center will help to lead this effort through the “Supplying High-Efficiency Cookstoves to Developing Nations Program”. The “Supplying High-Efficiency Cookstoves to Developing Nations Program” will △Combat climate change by reducing usage of lumber △Alleviate respiratory issues caused by black carbon △Secure more time for women’s education by reducing time spent cooking △Meet requirements laid out by the SDGs in terms of providing sufficient employment and stable income to regional populations by providing necessary resources for domestic manufacturing of cookstoves. By serving the role of connecting developing nations with Korean companies that seek to contribute to society, the Climate Change Center will grow to become a global NGO.
Of the approximately 9 million ha of North Korean mountain forestry, roughly 3 million ha has become barren. To restore this greenery will require a lot of time and trillions of won. The Green Asia Organization, an annex of the Climate Change Center, has been working on projects such as the “North Hwanghae Sariwon-si Agriculture and Forestry Management Trial Program” and the “Unified Seed Growing Program” since 2014 to pursue a greener Korean peninsula. In 2018, when the two Koreas were working together to share “One Spring”, the Center finished working on a “Unified Seed Growing” facility in Gangwon-do Cheorwon-gun, and installed a cold storage facility for seedlings to be used to reforest North Korean mountains.
The Green Asia Organization will continue to modernize such seed growing facilities and more systematically strengthen the Agriculture and Forestry Management programs through the incorporation of more resources such as food, energy, and greenery.
